Description
Satisfies Experiential Learning requirement.
This course is for students who are participating in the Judicial Externship Program with the California Court of Appeal. Students apply to that program and, if accepted, are placed with a Court of Appeal Justice to extern part-time during the spring semester. Students will then enroll in this 2-unit seminar. The seminar offers substantive support, integrating legal theory and doctrine that students will experience on-site with practice skills (legal writing, presenting to chambers, etc.). The seminar also fulfills the ABA-required externship component; students will draft a Professional Development Plan and will engage in written and in-class reflections on their experiences. Finally, this 2-unit seminar offers a collaborative and supportive environment for students to discuss their own professional development, issues observed in the justice system, and how to navigate establishing professional relationships in chambers.
This course has an application process and students may enroll only upon permission of the instructor.
NOTE: Students who enroll in this course should not enroll in Judicial Externship Program - Class Component (Law*899).
