Description
Prerequisites: Property, Contracts. Recommended but not required: Environmental Law, Federal Income Tax, Real Property Transactions. This course covers the law and policy of voluntary environmental protection strategies, with a strong practical focus. Course topics will include conservation easements, cap-and-trade regimes, carbon projects, and other ecosystem services transactions, as well as the formation and governance of exempt organizations and the available tax exemptions in this field. Students will apply these concepts to real world scenarios with case studies, drafting exercises, negotiation sessions, and research opportunities. Substantive areas of law will include environmental law and policy, real property transactions, and income, estate, and property tax.
