Description
This course surveys major federal environmental laws and is suitable for students who are considering a career in the field as well as those who are interested in environmental issues generally. The class will begin with an introduction to the sources and values underlying U.S. environmental law, the tools of modern environmental regulation, and the role of federal agencies in implementing environmental legislation. The course then examines major federal laws for air quality and climate protection, water quality protection, environmental impact assessment, hazardous waste cleanup, and biodiversity protection. Students will take several quizzes over the course of the semester and have a final exam at the end of the term.
