This course provides an advanced review and discussion of legal and policy issues arising from the application of copyright law in a digital world. We will read and discuss recent scholarly contributions, engage in classroom debate, discuss recent news items, and have class visits by experts in copyright industries. We will discuss policy issues but also focus on matters most relevant to the practical realities of practicing copyright law as a lawyer. Topics include (but are not limited to) music copyright, video game law, photography, the fate of small artists and the role of the fair use test in practice, enforcing small claims in copyright law, moral rights, the rights of publicity, and the future of copyright law more generally.
