Description
The Startup Legal Garage course is a full year course. Students can earn a total of 6 units for the full year (2-unit class in the fall and 2 units of fieldwork each during the Fall and Spring term). Fieldwork component satisfies the Experiential Learning requirement. Under the close supervision of a practicing attorney, students will work with entrepreneurs in their very early stages of business planning, including issues related to entity formation, intellectual property, contracts and employment. The weekly seminar will address substantive business law and practice, transactional lawyering skills, client work and the professional role of the business lawyer. This course will orient students to the expectations of a business law practice and students will develop and apply transactional lawyering skills such as transaction planning and management, client interviewing and counseling, legal research, and contract and business document drafting. This course will be of particular interest to students considering a career in corporate practice.
Open to rising 2L and 3L students by application only. The application process takes place in the spring prior to the registration period in July.
