Description

This course covers much of the doctrine that must be covered in any Academic Regulation 705 Evidence course, including Federal Rules of Evidence, other legal authority on evidentiary issues (namely the 6th Amendment Confrontation Clause and its progeny), and the policies that explain these rules. It does so in a small class setting that teaches legal analysis and provides opportunities for students to strengthen their analytical, writing, and test-taking skills via multiple assignments and individualized feedback from the instructor. The course is an addition to the college's "Law & Process" suite of hybrid bar-tested doctrinal courses designed to help students master the reading, sorting, synthesizing, and arguing skills that lawyering demands. Though the course is open to all 2L and 3L students who apply, priority for most of the seats will be given to those students who have already been identified as part of the subset of students struggling with the skills mentioned above. There will be some spaces available for students who do not fit into that subset in an effort to both avoid stigmatization of "needing" to take this course and to bolster the effectiveness of classroom participation. Enrollment will be capped to maximize the collaborative and individualized aspects of the course. Students cannot take both this course and the traditional Evidence course.
