Description

This course will cover doctrinal material consistent with the existing 4-unit Criminal Procedure course but will do so using the Sack Program model. As part of the 2L Sack Program, this course will require students to complete at least two writing assignments. Students will receive feedback on those assignments from a Sack Fellow (a successful upper division student). The class will also integrate and explicitly teach legal analysis skills and self-directed learning for at least thirteen class hours during the semester. Consistent with 1L Sack Program, the additional thirteen hours accounts for the time provided by the additional Sack unit (e.g., this course is one unit more than the existing Criminal Procedure course). The legal analysis skills taught will include, among other things, synthesizing and distilling legal rules, sophisticated analogical reasoning, identifying legal issues, utilizing relevant facts to support one side or another to analyze legal issues. In terms of self-directed learning, students will engage in self-assessment and self-reflection on their own work product and learning process.
